Privacy Policy
Your privacy and the privacy of the people in your life are very important to us.

Last Updated: February 2, 2026
At Lore, we're committed to being transparent about how your data is handled. This Privacy Policy explains what information we access and how it's processed when you use the Lore macOS application.
Data We Access
Lore requests permission to read your iMessage history on your Mac to power its features.
Local Reading: Your message history is read directly from your device. We do not copy or sync your full message database to any server.
Selective Transmission: Only when you generate a Lore or use AI-powered features are excerpts of conversations sent for processing (see Section 2).
AI Processing
When you use AI features (generating Lores, insights, etc.), excerpts from the relevant conversation are sent to OpenAI for processing. We offer two modes:
A. Standard Mode (Default)
Your data is routed through our secure, stateless relay hosted on Cloudflare Workers.
How it works: Our relay forwards your request to OpenAI and returns the response.
Zero Retention: The relay is stateless by design. We do not store, log, or archive any message content. Once the request completes, the data is not retained on our infrastructure.
B. Custom API Key Mode
If you provide your own OpenAI API key in Settings, Lore connects directly from your Mac to OpenAI.
In this mode, your message data never touches our servers—not even transiently.
C. Disabling AI Features
You can disable AI processing entirely in Settings by turning off "AI Insights." In this mode, Lore functions as a local message viewer and no conversation data is transmitted.
Sharing Features
When you share a Lore, the generated card image (not your original messages) is uploaded to our servers.
What's uploaded: Only the final card image—a visual summary, not raw message data.
Storage: Shared images are stored on Cloudflare R2 to enable shareable links.
Retention: Shared images remain available at their link indefinitely unless you request deletion.
Third-Party Services
OpenAI: Powers AI-generated summaries and insights. Per OpenAI's API data usage policy, data sent via the API is not used to train their models.
Cloudflare: Hosts our stateless relay and shared image storage.
PostHog: Provides anonymous product analytics (see Section 5).
Analytics
We collect anonymous usage analytics to improve the application:
Feature usage events (e.g., "user generated a Lore")
App performance data (e.g., crashes)
Device information (e.g., macOS version)
What we do NOT collect: Message content, contact names, phone numbers, or any personally identifiable information from your conversations.
Local Storage
Generated Lores: Saved locally on your Mac.
Preferences: Stored locally using macOS standard preferences.
No Cloud Sync: We do not maintain a cloud database of your generated content.
Security
Encryption in Transit: All transmitted data uses TLS encryption.
Stateless Architecture: Our relay is designed to process requests without retaining data.
Your Rights
Opt-Out of AI: Disable "AI Insights" in Settings to prevent any message data from being transmitted.
Custom API Key: Use your own OpenAI key to bypass our servers entirely.
Deletion: Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. To delete a shared Lore, contact us with the share link.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or our website.
